Autumn Inspired Tablescapes

Tablescape inspired by Autumnal Paint Colors

As we approach the holiday season I wanted to design a tablescape influenced by my favorite autumn-inspired paint colors. A couple of weeks ago my friend and I created these gorgeous tablescapes that I hope will leave you inspired to create your own this holiday season or, better yet, paint a room in one of these autumnal colors.

Benjamin Moore Stuart Gold HC-10 and BM Golden Retriever 2165-30 are my favorite yellow paint colors out there. I have been dying to have the opportunity to paint a room Golden Retriever. Either one would looks so lovely in a mudroom, ceiling, dining room, or pretty much any type of room. They are so saturated in hue and I think it would look great in any light. Here in Georgia there are many trees that display this color right now.

I really love the idea of creating a color palette for a home that is inspired by Autumn. A person that comes to mind who does this exceptionally well is Amy Beth Cupp. Please check out her instagram here and prepare to be impressed by her New England home.

If you do a quick google search on the effect of yellow and emotions you will get a broad spectrum of opinions. Some say that yellow is aggressive and babies are more likely to cry in yellow rooms while others say that it can help seasonal affective disorder. According to this CNN article, the general consensus is that yellow evokes a positive mood. Obviously I am team yellow. My theory is colors that exist in nature should be repeated inside. Do you get angry when you see a golden yellow tree in the Fall? Likely not. There is a reason so many people flock to Colorado during September to see the Aspen trees. Try painting a laundry room or a playroom one of these yellows. Chances are you will feel more energized and happy doing laundry or your children will spend more time in their playroom.

BM Golden Retriever is a medium golden brown that goes great with many colors, especially a burgundy or red. Consider this paint color when painting a study or cabinetry! As we speak, I am having to restrain myself from buying a gallon of Golden Retriever so I can paint a random room in my house just because the color makes me happy.

BM Stuart Gold is a brighter gold and is part of the Benjamin Moore Historical Colors, which in my opinion means it surpasses trends. It would be an amazing choice for a mid-century or colonial door, or in cabinetry as shown below.

Fall Tablescape

For the above tablescape I chose a tablecloth that really embodied the yellow paint colors I had chosen as inspiration. I think it serves as a nice transition from Summer to Autumn. If using in the Summer you could use this tablecloth by incorporating brighter florals and summery place settings.

As the sun went down we removed the tablecloth and played around with place settings to create a more relaxed and moody tablescape inspired by darker paint colors. Many of you know I am no stranger to dark paint colors. In fact, I do lean towards a moody vibe when designing my own home.

Fall florals

This past year we have seen wine and plum colors having a moment in design. Whitney Parkinson has done this exceptionally well as evidenced by this mudroom. BM Vintage Wine 2116-20 is a perfect dark purple if you want to recreate that look. When deciding what color to paint small areas I will always consider a darker color first for both wall and ceiling. I stand firm in my belief that by painting a room a darker color makes a smaller room look larger.

Green is also in the design spotlight these days. I like to use dark greens in outdoor spaces like patios to bring the outside inside. In heavily wooded areas it creates a seamless transition to the outdoors and tricks the eye by blending the space with the view! BM Essex Green HC-188 would work well for a patio or as a front door color.

I hope you enjoyed this Autumn-inspired tablescape design! I'd love to hear your thoughts on having a home painted to mirror a season. Would you tire with it quickly or enjoy it year-round like me? I agree with yellow! I had a dining room that was painted a dark mustard color and I loved it! I felt peaceful in that room. The colors in the table are gorgeous! So beautiful.
