Happy December and Happy Holidays everyone! I want to share some easy and simple ideas on how to decorate for Christmas this year. It is so easy to surf social media and be discouraged seeing everyone really go all out on Christmas decorations making you think you have to keep up or you will miss out (guilty). I had to step back and really reevaluate what this season is for. For me its early morning quiet time by the glow of the christmas tree, baking with family, making memories with my kids, and celebrating the birth of my Savior.
So let's dig in! Around my house this season I used mainly live and faux greenery, ribbon, and...thats about it! Honestly it doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg to create a cozy, welcoming, and festive house.
For our main Christmas tree I used dried hydrangeas that my husband clipped on the side of the road, LOTS of ribbon, glass ball ornaments, and a few unique found ornaments. I may add some dehydrated oranges as garland I made last year at some point. We use a real tree each year. We tried a faux tree but I felt like an imposter, I can't explain it but it just didn't work for us. I have seen some beautiful and convincing faux trees but for this house we will continue buying local real trees.
For the garland I used three different faux garland from Stoffer Home, draped it on the built-ins and dressed them in battery operated lights.
In our bedroom I didn't do much here but I did create a greenery swag from our Christmas tree clippings and tied it around the library sconce with velvet ribbon. Pro-tip: ask the person trimming your live tree if you can keep the branches they cut off. If you go to Home Depot, they usually have a huge box of trimmings that I have picked through in the past.
I had a local florist create this live wreath to hang over a mirror. I love a good mirror wreath moment. It smells delightful and I hope our guests enjoy it as much as I do! Those berry looking things are actually peppercorn!
While I would love to have a Christmas tree in each room one day, our current home is just too small. To give my kids some decorating autonomy and to keep myself sane, I let them decorate their own tree. I do not go behind them and rearrange, I let them do their thing. Currently they like to use all of their ornaments they made in preschool and the craft projects they do daily. My oldest really gets into this and most every day he is wanting to craft Christmas decorations.
My favorite way to decorate is using mini wreaths and ribbon. In years past I made my own using garland but the last two years I have bought faux 8" mini wreaths to use year after year. I have these wreaths on the sconces on the built-ins but the Christmas tree hides them in photos.
Here I used velvet burgundy ribbons found on Amazon and mini wreaths from TuesdayMade. I simply tie ribbon around the wreath and hang it over the library lights.
As I was searching for little things to tie on all my gift wrapping this year, I came across this site. It has the cutest things for holiday and home. I didn't realize that I bought my tabletop tree from them this year but I wished I had explored their site before I checked out! This table top tree is popular and sadly it sold out quick. I have linked something similar below. I placed this tabletop outdoor on my screened-in porch in a chinoiserie planter. A simple blue velvet ribbon tops the tree.

Well that's it! I hope you enjoyed this mini Holiday house tour. I hope it leaves you inspired to ditch the spend, spend, spend and instead find things you already have in and outside the house to use as decor. As always, let me know if you have any questions or want help designing your space!
Happy Holidays!
