I hope everyone has had a wonderful Holiday season so far. Just in time for Christmas, I thought I would share my house decked out for Christmas. Confession: I started decorating November 1st. To be fair, I put up up all the faux greenery first and then we waited to get our (real) Christmas tree the day after thanksgiving. This year we hosted Thanksgiving at our house so I wanted to choose a color palate that would transition from Thansgiving to Christmas nicely; green & orange. So grab some coffee and if you're like me, turn on White Christmas and lets get into my Holiday House tour.
Table of Contents
Living Room
This room is my favorite to decorate and style. It is really long and narrow so I have different zones for this room. One of my favorite decorating traditions is that we keep all of years' past holday cards and place them around the house to flip through. Above you can see some of our cards displayed in a bowl on our coffee table. The cards we recieve during the season we tape them in our cased opening.
Our Chirstmas tree this year is probably my favorite tree to date. We do a real Christmas tree. We have tried to do a faux one a few years ago but it just didn't feel like us. Also, I read that real trees are better for the environment so it was an easy switch in my head. I used 1,400 lights this year to wrap this tree! My 6 year-old son hung nearly all of the ornaments! I used dried hydrangeas and dehydrated oranges all over.
For our built-ins I turn most of the books around to create a neutral palate. For all of our library lights I hung faux mini wreaths adorned with velvet rubbon. It is such a simple toutch but it makes such a difference. Above you can see garland around the cased-opening. This is a new purchase this year and it is probably the most realistic faux garland I have seen and purchased. I am really happy with them. Unfortunately the garland sold out but I will share as soon as it comes back in-stock.
For our front door that does't get used often, I hung a simple faux wreath with some ribbon and dried orange slices. This is a decoration that could honestly stick around year long, just change out the ribbon!
Dining Area
I didn't snap really any pictures here because it is difficut to photograph due to the lack of natural light. I hung some garland and ribbon on our chandelier. Again, a simple touch that makes a big difference. It adds a feminine touch to a rustic space. For the mantle I did a cute felt bannar and various garlands adorned with whole and sliced dried oranges.
The Screened-In Porch
Although this space doesn't get used in the winter, I still like to style out here since we can see it from the dining room. During the winter I move our cowhide and drape it over the coffee table. I placed our faux mini tree and strung twinkle lights on it. I have the lights on a timer so at 4pm we have a nice glow outside. These faux candles in a hurricane are also on a timer. We use these year round.
Guest Bathroom
Just a simple holday decorating nod here- I tied burgundy velvet ribbons on the sconces. I didn't keep the orange and green color theme throughtout the house. I decorated according to the room's needs.
Front Door Wreath
Another new holiday decor purchase this year was this indoor/outdoor UV rated wreath. I much prefer real wreaths. This wreath is not that convincing if viewing it up close. I dressed it up by adding some native magnolia leaves, pinecones, and afixed dried oranges and ribbon.
Guest Bedroom
This room looks so good with classic red and green colors. The deep blue walls create a beautiful background for red hues to pop. I hung a simple garland around the headboard and placed my favorite seasonal waxed amaryllis bulb on the antique chest. While most everyone purchases their amaryllis and paper whites right after Thanksgiving to ensure Christmas blooms, I wait until closer to Christmas to bring them in the house to yield a mid-winter bloom. It is a much needed breath of life in the dead of winter.
