I am so excited to finally officially launch my design business that I have dreaming about for almost 10 years! I thought I would do an official welcome to the website and do a little 'about me.'
I have always been a creative person. I remember my most proud design moment from the past was in college where I got my first matching furniture set and painted an accent wall purple (I have come a long way). I really enjoyed my art classes in school but when it came time to pick a degree, it was ingrained in me to choose a lucrative and stable career. At that time healthcare was the obvious choice. Did I have a passion for nursing? No, not really. Did I like the one-on-one personable care? Yes. Fast forward to my first nursing job I quickly realized that nursing wasn't my passion and I didn't want it to be my forever career. I was biding my time for something else.
Fast forward 9 years, multiple nursing jobs, 2 kids, and a house later I am finally making the leap. I have taken a well-respected paint color course with Maria Killam and design classes with Parson's School of Design. My dream is to create spaces that inspire people to relax and feel at ease in. One way to do that is being strategic with paint color. I love that color can evoke emotions, it is such an easy tool to use to create a feeling. Working in hospitals where the walls are an icy-blue white would immediately make me feel anxious, I want to avoid that when specifying paint colors. I want my clients to feel like they are at home in their homes.
I first became interested in using color when remodeling our own home. We have a ranch home that is long and narrow. Our living room was a blank white rectangle with no character whatsoever. We added built-ins, painted them a darker blue-green, and left the rest of the walls a neutral cream paint color. I was amazed how much larger the room felt and looked after painting such a dark color. It was then I enrolled myself in the color intensive class with Maria Killim and fell in love with color.
As you can see, I am not one to shy away from darker, saturated colors. Never underestimate the power of paint. Do you find yourself thinking "something is not right" when in a certain room of your house? It could be that the furniture, floors, etc. do not relate to your wall color. Is your exterior a hodgepodge of 50 different colors or painted one color leaving your house lacking in dimension? Are you renovating or building and are at a loss at what colors to paint your walls that match the flooring and countertops? I can help with this by helping identify the correct undertones of the space and finding a paint color that correlates.
